What it actually does
OpenPhone is OpenPhone Technologies, Inc. Still live. On September 23, 2025 they rebranded to Quo and raised $105 million. Not an acquisition. openphone.com redirects to quo.com. The app, the numbers, and the legal name did not change. Call it OpenPhone. The site calls it Quo (formerly OpenPhone).
It is a per-user cloud phone: shared numbers, shared SMS inbox, recording, on the iPhone already in the van. Auto-replies is a named missed-call SMS on every paid plan (one-way template, three-hour cooldown). That is not Podium. Sona is a named AI receptionist. It answers, qualifies, texts a booking link, transfers. Included pack is 1,000 credits, about 10 calls a month. Paid credit tiers are $25, $49, $99, and $199. It is not voicemail transcription. It is not Ruby.
No reviews SKU. No listings SKU. No website chatbot. No 911. Native Jobber and Clio start at Business. Housecall Pro, Dentrix, and Mindbody are none. US and Canada calling and SMS are unlimited star, under Fair Use. Fair Use bans autodialers and cold calling. 10DLC is $19.50 plus $1.50 to $3 a month.

Buy Starter if two people share one line and SMS is enough. Monthly cash is $19 a user. Annual is $15 ($180 billed). Business is $33 monthly, $23 annual, and that is the floor for IVR, auto-recording, analytics, Jobber, and Clio. Scale is $47 / $35. Extra numbers $5. Trial is 7 days. Trial has no SMS. Inviting two techs during trial bills seats.
Buy it if you run Jobber and you can live with a 48-hour hold on the Google number. Buy it for a small Clio firm that wants one shared inbox. Skip it if you are a dentist. That aisle is Weave. Skip it if you are a salon on Mindbody. That aisle is Podium. Skip it as Dialpad. This is not UCaaS.
The catch
The reason not to buy is the number on the truck. BBB, live August 25, 2026: A, accredited November 18, 2025, customer reviews 1.44 from 9, 37 complaints in three years, 36 in the last 12 months. 2026 file is holds, 10DLC, port-out, billing. Cameron F, HVAC: suspended when STOP rate on warranty texts went from 2.5 percent to 3.5. A salon line died after they canceled mid-port. A shop with the number on the truck locked for unusual activity until BBB. ToS, June 11, 2025: no refunds. Order Forms auto-renew, 30-day notice. Number retention: FAQ 60 days, ToS 45, support 30. Unresolved. Sona 7-day trial auto-converts.
